Why Compulsory Union Dues Violate The First Amendment

Later this month, thousands of teachers will return to the classroom and in 22 states they will be forced to pay union dues as a condition of their employment. Every summer, the Nevada Policy Research Institute and the Association of American Educators sponsors Employee Freedom Week, a week-long campaign to raise awareness about the rights of public employees and the steps they can take to reduce any compelled payments to unions. However, this year there are two cases working their way through the courts that could set teachers free for good.
