Nine amicus briefs Urge Supreme Court to Review Friedrichs

Nine parties filed amicus or “friend of the court” briefs urging the Supreme Court to grant CIR’s petition to review Friedrichs v. CTA and overturn Abood v. Detroit Bd. of Educ., a 1977 case in which the Court allowed states to require all public employees to pay union dues.  The amicus briefs represent a cross section of individuals and groups, including a bipartisan group of former California public officials, a group of California scholars and educators, nine states, four public policy and public interest law organizations (Cato Institute, National Right to Work Foundation, Pacific Legal Foundation, Pacific Research Institute), a group of constitutional law professors, and a group of Illinois school administrators:
