Doe v. Department
of Health and Human Services Civ. No. 97-091 (S.D. Tex. filed Feb. 14, 1997).
Issue: Civil Rights; Equal Protection.
Action: Challenged exclusion of Caucasian youth from minorities-only
summer study program funded in part by the National Institute of Health
and Texas A&M University.
Status: Victory. Case settled prior to trial for a total of $67,000 in damages and attorneys' fees and an agreement by the federal defendants not to use the program funds at issue to support race-preferential programs in the future.
